The Snow Woman1968
“The tale of Yuki-onna.”
Directed by Tokuzō Tanaka
The premise
Two sculptors spend the night in a mountain lodge after being caught in a snowstorm. A female spirit appears and takes the life of one of the men. She spares the other man's life on the condition that he never tell anyone what happened that night.
Horror Vault's take
In feudal Japan, two craftsmen seek shelter from a brutal snowstorm, only to encounter a terrifying spirit of the snow whose beauty masks something far more lethal. One man walks away bound by a vow of silence — a secret that will quietly shape the rest of his life. Drawing on the classic Japanese folk legend of Yuki-onna, the film weaves dread and desire into a visually haunting portrait of a man living under an impossible burden. The line between curse and enchantment blurs with every passing season.
