The premise

A high concept thriller that tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers, wage war for the fate of humanity itself.

When a commercial flight lands at JFK with nearly everyone on board dead, CDC specialist Dr. Ephraim Goodweather is first on the scene — and what he discovers is far older and far worse than any known pathogen. The series reimagines vampirism as a creeping biological plague, blending hard science procedural tension with creature-feature horror across New York City's gritty streets. A ragtag group of survivors, including a seasoned vampire hunter with a long history with this particular evil, must race to contain a threat that spreads faster than any quarantine can hold. Equal parts epidemic thriller and monster epic, The Strain escalates relentlessly from clinical unease to all-out war for the human race.
