The premise
In the Olden Tymes, Count Regula is drawn and quartered for killing twelve virgins in his dungeon torture chamber. Thirty-five years later, he comes back to seek revenge on the daughter of his intended thirteenth victim and the son of his prosecutor in order to attain immortal life.

Deep in the tradition of European Gothic horror, this 1967 West German chiller follows two unsuspecting young people summoned toward the crumbling domain of a notorious executed nobleman. Decades after Count Regula met a gruesome public fate for his monstrous crimes, something stirs in the darkness of his dungeon — and his intended victims' heirs are about to discover that some evils refuse to stay buried. Lavishly designed with surreal, expressionistic imagery, the film leans hard into atmosphere and dread rather than straightforward scares. Christopher Lee lends his unmistakable menace to the proceedings, elevating this cult oddity into essential Gothic viewing.
