The premise
In a fairy-tale kingdom where beauty is a brutal business, Elvira battles to compete with her incredibly beautiful stepsister, Agnes, and she will go to any length to catch the Prince’s eye.

Set in a fairy-tale kingdom where beauty is currency and cruelty is currency exchange, The Ugly Stepsister flips the Cinderella myth on its head by following Elvira — the girl on the wrong side of the story — as she grows increasingly desperate to outshine her radiant stepsister Agnes in the eyes of the Prince. What begins as social competition curdles into something far more disturbing, as Elvira's pursuit of impossible ideals pushes her body and mind to their limits. This Scandinavian indie channels the grotesque logic of old-world fairy tales, where transformation always comes at a price. Sharp satire and stomach-turning imagery combine to deliver a horror fable that cuts as deep as any scalpel.
