When a well-meaning small-town doctor accidentally takes an experimental compound derived from vampire bat blood, he begins to suffer terrifying and uncontrollable changes that threaten everything — and everyone — he holds dear. A quietly unsettling 1950s chiller, the film grafts classic Jekyll-and-Hyde tragedy onto Cold War-era anxieties about runaway science. The investigation that follows draws in nurses, detectives, and coroners, each piecing together a mystery with bite marks at its heart. It's a sympathetic monster story that lingers on the horror of a good man losing himself.
