Set in the fog-draped New England of 1965, a rebellious teenage girl is deposited at a remote boarding school by parents who seem relieved to be rid of her. Strange sounds drift from the surrounding forest, classmates begin to vanish, and the school's enigmatic staff appear to know far more than they let on. Director Lucky McKee builds a suffocating atmosphere of dread where the line between institution and wilderness — and between the natural and the supernatural — dissolves unsettlingly. Fans of slow-burning, female-centred horror will find plenty to unsettle them here.
