In a Mexican city gripped by cartel violence, a young girl named Estrella is left without a guardian and finds refuge among a scrappy band of street children — but the darkness pursuing them is not only human. Blending the logic of a dark fairy tale with visceral social horror, the film follows these kids as they navigate a world where the dead may linger and wishes carry a terrible price. Director Issa López conjures something hauntingly beautiful from the bleakest of circumstances, making grief and danger feel both mythic and achingly real.
