The premise

Beneath an unremarkable exterior, a mild-mannered schoolteacher conceals a desperate hunger for blood — one he satisfies by seeking out women who have lost the will to live. Director Shunji Iwai crafts a quietly disturbing portrait of predation that blurs the line between monster and man. The film lingers in a mood of grey urban loneliness, asking uncomfortable questions about who the true victims really are.
