The premise
When the crew of an American tugboat boards an abandoned Russian research vessel, the alien life form aboard regards them as a virus which must be destroyed.

A salvage crew searching for fortune stumbles upon a drifting Russian research ship that seems impossibly, eerily empty — until something aboard makes its intentions horrifyingly clear. An extraterrestrial intelligence has taken hold of the vessel and its technology, and it has decided that the humans who just climbed on board are little more than an infestation to be exterminated. With nowhere to run on the open ocean, the crew must fight for survival against a threat that is unlike anything they have ever encountered. Equal parts sci-fi siege thriller and creature feature, this late-90s genre entry delivers relentless tension and practical effects-driven mayhem.
