A kung fu agent dispatched to a remote Chinese island to track down a fugitive quickly discovers that the locals have a very different agenda — one involving the visitors as the main course. Director Tsui Hark blends bone-crunching martial arts with outrageous splatter comedy in this gleefully unhinged Category III-era romp. The island's cannibalistic community, ruled by a sinister chief, turns every escape attempt into a chaotic blood-soaked spectacle. It's equal parts grindhouse gross-out and slapstick action, a cult oddity that refuses to be neatly categorized.
