Directed by Antonio Margheriti
The premise
Alan Foster, a professional American journalist, travels to London to meet with Edgar Allan Poe for an interview. While in London, Alan soon finds himself in the company of Lord Blackwood, and Alan accepts a bet to spend a night in his castle
Horror Vault's take
An American journalist crosses paths with none other than Edgar Allan Poe in London, and before long finds himself lured into a wager that no sane man should accept — a single night alone inside a reputedly cursed castle. What waits for him within those ancient walls defies rational explanation, plunging him into a darkness that feels ripped straight from Poe's own darkest pages. This Italian Gothic production revels in shadowy atmosphere and old-world dread, delivering a slow-creeping sense of menace that builds through the night. Fans of classic European horror will find much to savour in its candlelit corridors and restless, unearthly inhabitants.
