The premise

A demonic force has chosen Freddy Krueger as its portal to the real world. Can Heather Langenkamp play the part of Nancy one last time and trap the evil trying to enter our world?

Horror Vault's take

Wes Craven turns the camera on Hollywood itself as actress Heather Langenkamp — playing a version of herself — begins to sense that something ancient and genuinely malevolent is using the iconic image of Freddy Krueger as a mask to claw its way into the real world. Blurring the line between performer and role, the film traps Langenkamp between her past as horror's beloved Nancy and a present-day threat that feels disturbingly personal. Craven's boldly self-referential approach elevates the premise far beyond a standard slasher sequel, delivering a meditation on why we tell scary stories in the first place.
