The premise
A wealthy landowner living in Haiti convinces a sorcerer to lure the woman he has fallen for away from her fiancé. The madman later betrays their agreement by keeping the woman for himself…as a zombie.

Deep in the shadows of Haiti, a desperate man turns to a sinister sorcerer to claim the woman he desires — consequences be damned. Bela Lugosi commands the screen as the menacing zombie master, weaving voodoo and mind control into a tale of dark obsession. This 1932 Pre-Code landmark is widely regarded as one of cinema's earliest feature-length zombie films, steeped in Gothic atmosphere and unsettling dread. What follows is a chilling game of manipulation where no one — not the sorcerer, not the schemer, and certainly not the woman — is truly safe.
