The premise
Twenty-eight years after the Rage virus outbreak, a heavily-defended island survives connected to the mainland by a single causeway. When one of the group leaves the island into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.

Nearly three decades after the Rage virus turned Britain into a wasteland, a fragile pocket of survivors clings to island life, shielded from the infected hordes by geography and discipline. When one man ventures beyond the safety of their causeway and into the ravaged mainland, he finds a world far stranger and more dangerous than anyone on the island dared imagine. The infected are not the only thing that has evolved in twenty-eight years — so have the people left behind. Danny Boyle's long-awaited continuation raises the stakes of the franchise by asking what civilisation truly means when it has had a generation to reinvent itself from scratch.
