The premise
Widowed mother Holly is radically tested when her teenage daughter Betsey experiences a profound enlightenment and insists that her body is no longer her own, but in service to a higher power. Bound to her newfound faith, Betsey refuses to eat but loses no weight. In an agonizing dilemma, torn between love and fear, Holly is forced to confront the boundaries of her own beliefs.

After losing her husband, Holly is already holding her family together by a thread when her teenage daughter Betsey returns from a party irrevocably changed — convinced that her body has been claimed by something beyond herself. As Betsey stops eating yet inexplicably wastes away no further, Holly must wrestle with whether her daughter is experiencing a genuine spiritual awakening or something far more disturbing. The film unfolds as a slow, suffocating war between maternal instinct and creeping dread, refusing to offer easy answers. Grief, faith, and control collide in ways that get under the skin long after the credits roll.
