The premise
Though Kevin has evidenced 23 personalities to his trusted psychiatrist, Dr. Fletcher, there remains one still submerged who is set to materialize and dominate all the others. Compelled to abduct three teenage girls led by the willful, observant Casey, Kevin reaches a war for survival among all of those contained within him — as well as everyone around him — as the walls between his compartments shatter apart.
Horror Vault's take
When three teenage girls are abducted by a man whose mind houses dozens of distinct personalities, they quickly realize their captor is far more unpredictable — and dangerous — than any single person could be. The girls must think fast and stay sharp as the clock ticks toward the emergence of something none of them are prepared for. Director M. Night Shyamalan anchors the film in James McAvoy's staggering, chameleonic performance, which swings between menace and vulnerability with unnerving ease. Anya Taylor-Joy's quiet, watchful protagonist carries a haunted strength all her own, hinting at wounds that run deeper than the current nightmare.
