A Murder of Crows1999
“A work of deadly fiction.”
Directed by Rowdy Herrington
The premise
In the wake of a career-ending scandal, disgraced lawyer Lawson Russell moves to Key West, where he befriends aging novelist Christopher Marlowe. After letting Russell borrow his latest manuscript, Marlowe dies of a heart attack. When Russell publishes the dead man's manuscript under his own name, he makes the best-seller list—and unwittingly becomes the prime suspect in the investigation of a grisly multiple homicide.
Horror Vault's take
A disgraced lawyer looking for a fresh start in Key West stumbles into a deadly trap of his own accidental making when a dead man's stolen manuscript ties him to a string of brutal murders. Cuba Gooding Jr. plays the desperate, increasingly cornered Russell as investigators close in and the body count refuses to stay in the past. What begins as an opportunistic act of literary fraud spirals into a high-stakes legal and psychological nightmare with a killer lurking somewhere in the shadows. The film keeps viewers second-guessing who is hunting whom right up to its final act.
