The premise

American tourists David and Jack are savagely attacked by an unidentified animal while hiking on the Yorkshire Moors. After retiring to the home of a beautiful nurse to recuperate, David soon begins experiencing disturbing changes to his body and mind.

Horror Vault's take

Two young American backpackers find their European adventure derailed in the most terrifying way imaginable after a brutal encounter on the fog-drenched Yorkshire Moors. Waking up in a London hospital, survivor David struggles to separate nightmare from reality as his body and instincts begin to betray him in ways he can't explain. Director John Landis masterfully balances jet-black humor with genuine horror, grounding the fantastical in an achingly human story of loss and dread. Landmark practical transformation effects ensure this one gets under your skin long after the credits roll.
