Audrey Rose1977
“Suppose a stranger told you your daughter was his daughter in another life? Suppose you began to believe him? Suppose it was true?”
Directed by Robert Wise
The premise
A man is convinced that 11-year old girl, Ivy, is the reincarnation of his own daughter Audrey Rose, who died in a fiery car accident, along with his wife, two minutes before Ivy was born.
Horror Vault's take
When a grief-stricken stranger begins shadowing a young girl and her family, claiming she is the reborn soul of his deceased daughter, the parents are torn between outrage and a creeping, inexplicable doubt. The child's disturbing episodes — vivid, inexplicable, and deeply distressing — refuse to be easily explained away. Anthony Hopkins brings quiet, unnerving conviction to a man who may be dangerously deluded or terrifyingly right, and the film never lets the audience settle comfortably into either answer. What begins as an intrusion slowly becomes a profound and deeply unsettling meditation on life, death, and what — if anything — lies between.
