The premise

Eddie is a Vietnam veteran who loses his arms and legs when he steps on a land mine, but a brilliant surgeon is able to attach new limbs. Unfortunately, an insanely jealous assistant (who has fallen in love with Eddie's fiancée) switches Eddie's DNA injections, transforming him into a gigantic killer.

Horror Vault's take

A wounded Vietnam veteran becomes the unwilling subject of a radical surgical experiment meant to restore what war took from him — but sinister sabotage in the laboratory sets him on a monstrous new path. Blending blaxploitation energy with classic Universal Monster DNA, Blackenstein transplants the Frankenstein myth into 1970s America with a raw, exploitation-era edge. The film lingers on questions of loyalty and obsession as much as it does on the horror lurking within the operating room.
