The premise
Baron von Sepper is an Austrian aristocrat noted for his blue-toned beard, and his appetite for beautiful wives. His latest spouse, an American beauty named Anne, discovers a vault in his castle that's filled with the frozen bodies of several beautiful women.

In a forbidding Austrian castle, a charming but dangerous aristocrat with an unmistakable blue-tinged beard has a troubling habit — his beautiful wives have a way of disappearing. When his newest American bride begins poking into corners she was warned to leave alone, she uncovers a chilling secret that reframes every smile her husband has ever given her. Part dark fairy tale and part Grand Guignol spectacle, this 1972 cult entry leans into its lurid premise with a starry ensemble and a wicked sense of theatricality. The result is a gloriously excessive blend of camp and menace that lingers long after the credits roll.
