The premise
When Environmental Protection Agency inspector Steve Malone travels to a remote military base in order to check for toxic materials, he brings his family along for the ride. After arriving at the base, his teenage daughter Marti befriends Jean Platt, daughter of the base's commander, General Platt. When people at the base begin acting strangely, Marti becomes convinced that they are slowly being replaced by plant-like aliens.

A remote military base becomes the unlikely epicenter of something deeply wrong in this lean, claustrophobic sci-fi horror. When a teenager starts noticing that the people around her are no longer quite themselves, the rigid uniformity of military life makes it terrifyingly easy to dismiss her fears. Director Abel Ferrara strips the classic premise down to its rawest anxieties, using the base's enforced order as the perfect breeding ground for creeping dread. Trust becomes the most dangerous commodity of all when anyone — even the people closest to you — might already be gone.
