The premise
A plastic surgeon and his nurse join a bizarre circus to escape from the police. Here he befriends deformed women and transforms them for his "Temple of Beauty". However, when they threaten to leave, they meet with mysterious accidents.

A fugitive plastic surgeon finds the perfect cover — and the perfect supply of subjects — when he infiltrates a travelling circus, using his scalpel to reshape disfigured women into stunning performers for his self-styled 'Temple of Beauty'. But his control over his creations is absolute, and any woman who dares to walk away soon finds that the circus holds far deadlier acts than the ones on the programme. This lurid British shocker blends Grand Guignol spectacle with a deeply unsettling portrait of male obsession and coercive power. Stylish Eastmancolor photography and a star turn from Anton Diffring give the film a cold, magnetic menace that lingers long after the big top comes down.
