The premise
As the first nomadic tribes wander across the vast wilderness of the infant planet they confront hostilities created by the harsh environment and each other. After a massive volcanic eruption a tribal chief is killed and his two sons fight for supremacy, not only for the leadership of the tribe but also for the love of a beautiful young woman. The age-old battlegrounds of rivalry, envy and passion are explored in this tale of prehistoric adventure.

Set in the brutal dawn of human prehistory, this Hammer production follows nomadic tribes as they struggle against a merciless landscape of volcanic upheaval and scarce resources. When a chieftain falls, his two sons lock into a fierce contest for dominance over both the tribe and the affections of a captivating young woman. Raw human instincts — rivalry, envy, and desire — are stripped to their most elemental form against a backdrop of untamed wilderness. It is less a monster movie than a visceral portrait of humanity at its most savage and unformed.
