The premise

A frustrated detective deals with the case of several gruesome murders committed by people who have no recollection of what they've done.

Horror Vault's take

In the rain-soaked streets of Tokyo, a weary detective finds himself drawn into a baffling series of killings where each perpetrator is an ordinary person with no memory of committing the crime. The only thread connecting the cases is a drifting, enigmatic stranger whose encounters with the killers precede each act of violence. Director Kiyoshi Kurosawa crafts a slow-burn descent into existential unease, where the horror lies not in what is seen but in what quietly unravels beneath the surface. This is neo-noir as psychological abyss — a film that lingers in the mind long after the credits roll.
