The premise
Kit, a troubled girl, is sent to the exclusive Blackwood boarding school, where she discovers that only four other female students have been admitted to learn the four pillars of knowledge under the ominous wing of the mysterious headmistress Madame Duret.

When troubled teenager Kit is enrolled at the elite and eerily remote Blackwood Academy, she quickly senses that something is deeply wrong beneath the school's polished surface. Only five girls have been selected, each unusually gifted, and their enigmatic headmistress Madame Duret seems to have plans for them that go far beyond a standard education. As strange occurrences escalate and Kit's grip on herself begins to slip, the school's grand old walls reveal secrets that are anything but academic. A gothic coming-of-age story where the line between talent and possession grows dangerously thin.
