Dracula and Son1976
“Like Father Like Son, It's in the Blood”
Directed by Édouard Molinaro
The premise
With angry villagers driving them away from their castle in Transylvania, Dracula and his son Ferdinand head abroad. Dracula ends up in London, England where he becomes a horror movie star exploiting his vampire status. His son, meanwhile, is ashamed of his roots and ends up a night watchman in Paris, France where he falls for a girl. Naturally, tensions arise when father and son are reunited and both take a liking to the same girl.
Horror Vault's take
When a mob of angry villagers forces the Count and his reluctant son Ferdinand out of their ancestral Transylvanian castle, the two bats go their separate ways — Dracula reinventing himself as a horror celebrity in swinging London while Ferdinand tries desperately to blend in among the living in Paris. Their reunion puts more than family loyalty to the test when both men set their sights on the same woman. This French horror-comedy plays the vampire mythos for laughs, leaning into the absurdity of a bloodsucker navigating modern celebrity culture. Christopher Lee trades his trademark menace for self-parody in a rare comedic outing.
