The premise

Set in the colourful chaos of early 20th-century Paris, this adaptation of Jacques Tardi's beloved comic strip follows the fearless and quick-witted novelist Adèle Blanc-Sec as she navigates a city suddenly overrun by very unexpected ancient problems. Pterodactyls, mummies, and bumbling authorities are just a few of the obstacles standing between Adèle and her goals. Director Luc Besson brings a playful, visually inventive energy that sits somewhere between pulp adventure and outright comedy. It's a romp that never takes itself too seriously — and is all the better for it.
