Horror Vault's take
Set in the rugged Basque Country of 1843, this Spanish-language folk horror plunges into the shadowy world of a reclusive blacksmith whose remote forge hides secrets that a visiting constable is ill-equipped to face. Drawing on traditional Basque legend, the film weaves a darkly enchanting tale where the boundary between the human world and something far more sinister proves dangerously thin. The period setting is rendered with striking atmosphere, grounding supernatural dread in the scarred landscape of a nation still bleeding from the Carlist Wars. Expect a story that feels as old as the mountains it inhabits.
