The premise
Minami mistakenly kills a gangster associate of his named Brother. Almost as soon as the murder takes place, the body of the deceased man is gone, prompting Minami to conduct a search. While looking, he finds a mysterious isolated hotel where he decides to take a rest. Not only are the front desk clerks a bit strange, but even the ambiance feels unusual. Minami soon realizes he may have gotten more than he bargained for.

A low-level yakuza operative finds himself in a waking nightmare after a botched encounter leaves him scrambling to locate a missing body — a task that leads him far deeper into strangeness than any mob assignment should. Director Takashi Miike plunges the viewer into a fever-dream landscape where a remote, oddly-staffed hotel becomes the epicenter of escalating unreality. Equal parts deadpan crime comedy and genuinely disquieting horror, Gozu refuses to play by any genre's rules. Fans of Japanese cult cinema will find themselves equal parts amused and deeply unnerved.
