The premise
After receiving an exotic small animal as a Christmas gift, a young man inadvertently breaks three important rules concerning his new pet, which unleashes a horde of malevolently mischievous creatures on a small town.

When a well-meaning father brings home a mysterious exotic creature as a Christmas gift for his son, the holiday cheer quickly sours after a few simple but critical care rules get broken. What follows is a gleefully anarchic siege on a quiet small town by a mob of vicious, unpredictable little monsters. Balancing genuine scares with dark slapstick humor, the film walks a razor-thin line between creature-feature horror and outrageous comedy. It remains one of the defining genre hybrids of 1980s cinema.
