The premise
Newcomer Evan joins a group of teens on a getaway in Joshua Tree. While exchanging ghost stories around the campfire, Evan reads aloud a mysterious chant from an internet site. From that moment, someone--or something--is among them.

A group of friends escaping to the California desert for a carefree weekend find their trip taking a sinister turn after Evan, the newest addition to the group, recites a mysterious internet chant around the campfire. Something answers the call — and it may already be walking among them. Head Count leans into the paranoia of not knowing who, or what, to trust, wrapping a shapeshifting threat in the sun-bleached isolation of Joshua Tree. The film draws on internet-age urban legend mythology to craft a slow-burn creature feature that rewards patient viewers.
