In the shadowy depths of a centuries-old European castle, a hooded executioner from the darkest pages of medieval history appears to have returned — and women are dying in the dungeon's grim devices. This early 1960s Italian Gothic chiller blends period atmosphere with crime mystery as investigators close in on an enigmatic killer whose origins may defy rational explanation. Christopher Lee lends his imposing screen presence to a production steeped in candlelit dread and Old World menace. Fans of atmospheric Euro-horror will find its castle corridors impossible to resist.
