The premise

A company hopes to open a spa hotel named after Ieodo, a mythical island inhabited by the souls of drowned sailors. During a study trip to the proposed location of the hotel, a journalist disappears under mysterious circumstances. One of the contractors goes to Ieodo's neighboring island, populated by widows of the dead sailors, to unravel the mystery.

Horror Vault's take

In the remote coastal world of 1970s South Korea, a corporate dream to build a luxury spa hotel near the mythical isle of Ieodo — said to be a realm of souls claimed by the sea — takes a dark turn when a journalist vanishes without explanation. Drawn into the mystery, an investigator travels to a desolate island populated almost entirely by the widows of drowned fishermen, where old legend and present-day dread blur uncomfortably together. The film stews in the eerie atmosphere of a community shaped by perpetual loss, where the boundary between the living and those swallowed by the ocean feels dangerously thin.
