Sleep2023
“Something awakens.”
Directed by Jason Yu
🏆 3 wins & 14 nominations total
The premise
A pregnant wife who becomes worried about her husband’s sleeping habits. What starts out as some light sleep-talking soon escalates to unexpectedly grotesque behaviour. They consult a sleep clinic without success and as his nightmarish behaviour escalates, they desperately seek help from a shaman.
Horror Vault's take
When a devoted husband begins exhibiting bizarre and increasingly disturbing behaviour in his sleep, his pregnant wife finds herself caught between rational explanations and something far darker. What begins as harmless sleep-talking steadily mutates into a waking nightmare that no doctor seems equipped to diagnose. As modern medicine fails them, the couple turns to older, more primal remedies — and the answers they uncover may be worse than the sleepless nights themselves. South Korean filmmaker Yoo Jae-sun crafts a slow-burn domestic horror that weaponises the most intimate space imaginable: the shared bed.
