The premise
Kolchak: The Night Stalker is an American television series that aired on ABC during the 1974–1975 season. It featured a fictional Chicago newspaper reporter who investigated mysterious crimes with unlikely causes, particularly those that law enforcement authorities would not follow up. These often involved the supernatural or even science fiction, including fantastic creatures.

Carl Kolchak is a tenacious Chicago newspaper reporter with a nose for stories that go far beyond ordinary crime — the kind involving creatures and forces that polite society refuses to acknowledge. Each week he finds himself on the trail of a new unexplained menace, armed with little more than a camera, a tape recorder, and sheer stubbornness. The authorities are never keen to let the truth get out, making Kolchak's pursuit as much a battle against bureaucracy as against the supernatural. This cult classic helped define the monster-of-the-week format that would influence genre television for decades.
