The premise
Billy, a single mother of two, is led into a macabre underworld while her teenage son, Bones, discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town. Both Billy and Bones must dive deep into the mystery if their family is to survive.

In a dying, near-abandoned American town, a struggling single mother is pulled toward a shadowy underworld of strange performances and darker deals just to keep her family afloat. Meanwhile her teenage son follows crumbling streets toward a drowned secret buried beneath the water's surface. Ryan Gosling's directorial debut weaves neo-noir dread with fairy-tale surrealism, painting desolation as both a place and a state of mind. The town itself feels cursed, and escaping it may cost more than either mother or son is prepared to pay.
