Murders in the Zoo1933
“HE KILLED FOR LOVE...AND LOVED TO KILL!”
Directed by A. Edward Sutherland
The premise
Dr. Gorman is a millionaire adventurer, traveling the world in search of dangerous game. His bored, beautiful, much younger wife entertains herself in the arms of other men. In turn, Gorman uses his animals to kill these men. When a New York City zoo suggests a fundraising gala, Gorman sees a prime opportunity to dispatch the dashing Roger and anyone else who might cross him.
Horror Vault's take
A wealthy big-game hunter with a taste for exotic animals and a pathological jealousy makes deadly use of his collection when his young wife's roving eye attracts unwanted suitors. Set against the backdrop of a prestigious New York zoo, the film blends Pre-Code savagery with a darkly twisted vision of a man who treats human lives as casually as wild game. Lionel Atwill delivers a chilling portrait of charming villainy, while the creatures on display serve as both spectacle and instrument of terror. The zoo setting transforms a place of wonder into a hunting ground with nowhere to run.
