The premise
In the treacherous frontier city of Samurai Town, a ruthless bank robber is sprung from jail by wealthy warlord The Governor, whose adopted granddaughter Bernice has gone missing. The Governor offers the prisoner his freedom in exchange for retrieving the runaway. Strapped into a leather suit that will self-destruct within five days, the bandit sets off on a journey to find the young woman—and his own path to redemption.

In a fever-dream collision of spaghetti Western and samurai cinema, a hardened criminal is given one last chance at freedom — if he can track down a missing woman across a cursed, lawless wasteland before time literally runs out on him. Director Sion Sono constructs a wildly original world where kabuki aesthetics, post-apocalyptic grime, and supernatural dread collide at every turn. Nicolas Cage anchors the chaos as a man strapped into a ticking doomsday suit, hunted by both the clock and forces he can't fully comprehend. It's deliriously unhinged cinema that plays by rules entirely its own.
