Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased)1969
“Murder Ain't What It Used To Be!”
Created by Dennis Spooner
The premise
Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) is a British private detective television series. In the initial episode Hopkirk is murdered during an investigation, but returns as a ghost. Randall is the only main character able to see or hear him, although certain minor characters are also able to do so in various circumstances throughout the series.
Horror Vault's take
When a private detective agency loses one of its partners under violent circumstances, the investigation into who is responsible takes on a decidedly unearthly dimension. The deceased Hopkirk refuses to leave his colleague Jeff Randall to go it alone, returning as a ghost only Randall can perceive. Together they tackle cases that the living world alone could never quite crack, with Hopkirk's spectral perspective proving an unlikely — and often comic — asset. This cult British series blends mystery, the paranormal, and dry wit into something genuinely unlike anything else of its era.
