Two young women fleeing an unnamed trouble find themselves stranded in the remote French countryside, drawn toward a crumbling chateau hiding ancient and dangerous secrets. The decaying estate is ruled by a vampire whose grip on the surrounding landscape is as inescapable as it is seductive. Director Jean Rollin weaves his signature dreamlike imagery through a story that lingers on atmosphere and dread over conventional narrative. Expect little dialogue and much visual poetry — though the darkness here is anything but innocent.
