The premise
The Marquis d’Urfé finds refuge in the home of a strange family after becoming lost in a hostile forest while working as an emissary for the King of France.

When a French royal emissary stumbles upon a remote family home deep in an unwelcoming forest, what begins as a chance shelter becomes something far more sinister. The household harbors a dread rooted in old-world folklore — the vourdalak, a vampire of Slavic legend said to prey first upon those it loved most in life. Steeped in candlelit unease and period atmosphere, the film draws on a classic literary source to craft a slow-burn tale of devotion curdling into horror. What the Marquis d'Urfé witnesses within those walls will haunt him long after he wishes to leave.
