Robot Monster1953
“Moon monsters launch attack against Earth! How can science meet the menace of astral assassins? New Science Fiction Thrills!”
Directed by Phil Tucker
The premise
Ro-Man, an alien robot who greatly resembles a gorilla in a diving helmet, is sent to earth to destroy all human life. Ro-Man falls in love with one of the last six remaining humans, and struggles to understand how his programming can instruct him to kill her while his heart demands that he can't.
Horror Vault's take
In a post-apocalyptic Earth, an alien conqueror known as Ro-Man — a lumbering figure that blends the grotesque with the ridiculous — has nearly wiped out the last remnants of humanity. When he fixates on one of the few survivors, an unexpected conflict emerges between his cold directives and something disturbingly human stirring within him. This 1953 cult oddity walks a strange line between earnest science-fiction dread and unintentional surrealism. It remains a landmark of early atomic-age monster cinema, beloved for its sheer audacity as much as its limitations.
