The premise

After experimenting on himself and becoming invisible, scientist Jack Griffin, now aggressive due to the drug's effects, seeks a way to reverse the experiment at any cost.

Horror Vault's take

A brilliant chemist discovers a chemical formula capable of rendering a human body completely invisible — but at a catastrophic psychological price. As scientist Jack Griffin spirals into paranoia and megalomania, he becomes a terrifying presence: a voice without a face, a threat that cannot be seen coming. James Whale's landmark adaptation of H.G. Wells' novel is an early showcase of audacious practical effects that still impress nearly a century later. The film is as much a tragedy of unchecked ambition as it is a creature feature, anchored by a mesmerizing vocal performance from Claude Rains.
