The premise

Mining engineer Shigeru investigates the disappearance and death of his fellow coworkers when prehistoric nymphs are discovered emerging from the mines. After an attack on the local village, Shigeru heads deeper into the mines only to make a more horrifying discovery in the form a prehistoric flying creature. Soon a second monster appears as the two converge in Fukuoka.

Horror Vault's take

When workers begin turning up dead near a Japanese mining operation, engineer Shigeru uncovers something far more terrifying than anyone anticipated lurking deep beneath the earth. What begins as a mystery rooted in ancient, insectoid horrors quickly escalates into a full-scale catastrophe as a colossal winged predator takes to the skies. Toho's follow-up to Godzilla brings the kaiju spectacle to the air, delivering city-leveling destruction and a sense of awe-tinged dread that defined the golden age of giant monster cinema.
