The premise
Ben Mears has returned to his hometown to write a book about the supposedly haunted Marsten House. When people around the Marsten House start dying mysteriously, Mears discovers that the owner of the mansion is actually a vampire who is turning them into an army of undead slaves.

A novelist returns to his quiet New England hometown hoping to channel its dark history into his next book — only to find that the shadows clinging to the old Marsten House are far more real than legend. Something ancient and predatory has taken root in Salem's Lot, and the townsfolk are beginning to change in deeply disturbing ways. This landmark Stephen King miniseries builds its terror slowly, favoring creeping dread over cheap shocks as one man races to save a community already slipping into darkness. Few vampire stories have captured small-town claustrophobia and gothic unease quite so effectively.
