In the aftermath of a brutal 16th-century war between Sweden and Russia, two Finnish brothers are tasked with mapping a contested border deep in the desolate swamplands — a journey that becomes as much about their inner torment as the hostile wilderness around them. The elder is a seasoned killer haunted by decades of violence; the younger, a man of reason and science, struggles to make sense of what they encounter. When the surveying party stumbles upon a remote village that seems to exist outside of time — and a mysterious sauna at its edge — something far older and more terrible than war begins to close in on them.
