The premise
A young beauty queen travels to New York to further her modelling career, but contracts syphilis after being tricked into a sexual encounter. She is torn between the prospect of a slow, intensive but proven therapy and a supposed miracle cure.

A single act of deception sets her on a harrowing path through illness, secrecy, and impossible choices. Caught between a grueling legitimate treatment and the seductive promise of an easy cure, she must navigate a world that offers little mercy to women in her position. This Depression-era exploitation picture uses the language of moral panic to shine a harsh light on venereal disease and the casting couch.
