“Lights... Camera... Body parts!”
Directed by Lee Demarbre
The premise
Television news celebrity April Carson turns to the services of private investigator Isaac Beaumonde to seek her missing sister, a stripper known as Gigi Spot. Carson assumes a role in a horror movie in the process, eventually learning that the movie's director, Able Whitman, is not only the culprit, but that he has rendered her sister's body into props for the production.
Horror Vault's take
A TV news personality hires a private detective to track down her missing sister, a trail that leads straight onto the set of a low-budget horror production with a director whose creative vision has taken a deeply disturbing — and deadly — turn. Smash Cut revels in the grand tradition of splatter cinema, leaning into its grindhouse roots with gleeful bad taste and buckets of practical gore. The film doubles as a loving, blood-soaked tribute to the era of exploitation horror, with genre legends lending their presence to underline the wink-and-nod homage. Beneath the campy excess lies a genuinely unsettling portrait of creative obsession pushed to its most monstrous extreme.
