The premise

Loner Mark Lewis works at a film studio during the day and, at night, takes racy photographs of women. Also he's making a documentary on fear, which involves recording the reactions of victims as he murders them. He befriends Helen, the daughter of the family living in the apartment below his, and he tells her vaguely about the movie he is making.

Horror Vault's take

A soft-spoken young man living a double life in 1960s London channels a deeply scarred psyche into an obsession with capturing raw human terror on camera. By day he blends into the mundane world of a film studio; by night his lens turns predatory. When a warm, curious neighbour begins to draw him out of his isolation, the tension between connection and compulsion becomes unbearable to watch. This landmark British thriller forces audiences to confront their own role as voyeurs — implicating the act of watching itself.
